From Concept to Creation: The Art of Branding for Vancouver’s Booze Art Music (BAM)

Booze Art Music (BAM) is a Vancouver-based arts and event organization company, built on the core principles of a good time - booze, art, and music. This company approached us with a vision to create a brand identity system that embodies flexibility and creativity, while effectively showcasing a diverse range of artists. Our goal was to develop a cohesive and striking brand identity that could adapt to various artistic styles and enable BAM to stand out in the competitive Vancouver arts scene.

BAM is an experiential arts and event curation company specializing in hosting events in open spaces. Their mission is to foster a sense of community within Vancouver's vibrant arts scene by connecting artists of all levels and statuses, and art-lovers alike. They aim to provide equal opportunities for emerging and established artists, enriching the local art culture.

Creating a Strong Brand Identity for BAM: From Guidelines to Event Materials

To support BAM’s launch and establish a strong presence, we were tasked with creating a comprehensive brand identity. This included developing a unique set of brand guidelines, designing a visually engaging website, and crafting impactful social media materials. Our work also involved designing promotional materials for multiple events, including posters, cocktail menus, and brochures.

Our approach focused on delivering a versatile brand identity that could accommodate a wide array of artistic expressions while maintaining a unified and visually appealing design. This strategy ensured that BAM’s branding would be both distinctive and adaptable, reflecting their commitment to celebrating art in all its forms.

Balancing The Bold and The Clean in Booze Art Music’s Brand Identity

When developing the brand identity for Booze Art Music (BAM), one of the key challenges was achieving a balance between bold, edgy design elements and a clean, professional presentation. BAM desired a brand identity that was both eye-catching and flexible—able to present diverse artistic styles without overshadowing the work or becoming overly complex.

Eye-catching and functional—BAM’s phone ready website version reflects its mission to stand out in Vancouver's art scene.

To address this, we selected two vibrant, attention-grabbing colors—red and yellow—complemented by a palette of greys and whites. These colors were chosen to evoke a sense of urgency and excitement, reminiscent of emergency alarms, which aligns with BAM’s mission to make a bold statement in the arts scene. The vibrant colors help communicate their energetic approach and commitment to celebrating art in an unapologetically loud and proud manner.

In terms of design, we focused on simplicity and functionality. The marketing materials feature clean, organized typefaces with layered designs and subtle text alterations to maintain visual interest without distraction. This approach ensures that BAM’s branding effectively captures attention and communicates their message while remaining versatile and adaptable across various platforms and materials.

Kicking it Off in Style: Event Materials

For Booze Art Music (BAM), we designed a logo that captures the essence of their brand while incorporating elements of guerrilla marketing. The logo, a simple yet impactful wordmark, doubles as a stamp—drawing inspiration from graffiti and the defiant style of artists like Banksy. This approach reflects BAM’s bold, unconventional spirit and their desire to make a statement in the arts scene.

For their inaugural event, we created straightforward promotional materials, including posters, cocktail signs, and event signage. The design was kept simple and aligned with BAM’s branding, allowing the focus to remain on the event itself without any thematic distractions.

The second event, the Y2K Soiree, celebrated the nostalgia of the early 2000s with a “end-of-the-world” theme. We designed eye-catching promotional materials, including posters, menus, brochures, and event signage. The design featured toxic-neon colors and low-resolution graphics to evoke a retro, apocalyptic vibe.

We also incorporated interactive elements, such as a DIY press kit with film cameras for guests to capture and share their experience. Additionally, we designed engaging activities like the “Fuck It List,” where attendees could jot down their ultimate bucket-list items before the end of the world.

The Y2K Soiree was a tremendous success, drawing over 100 participants. Despite the event company’s subsequent postponement due to the pandemic, the brief but impactful journey highlighted BAM’s ability to create memorable, high-energy events that resonate with diverse audiences.
